Dear colleagues and interested public,
Members of the Seaman's Association of the Republic of Serbia have been informed that the Ombudsman responded to our inquiry regarding the status of seafarers in Serbia on July 17, 2023. The document states that the Ombudsman has thoroughly examined the issues pointed out by the Seaman's Association of the Republic of Serbia and that activities have been initiated to find an optimal solution.
The document also emphasizes that finding a solution for such complex problems requires time and that a greater number of activities will be needed to achieve an adequate regulation of the status of seafarers in the Republic of Serbia.
From the given document, it can be concluded that the Ombudsman takes this issue seriously and is actively working on monitoring and resolving this matter, but at the same time, it is emphasized that the process is complex and requires temporal and organizational support for its successful completion.
We would also like to note that we received the Ombudsman's response seven days after announcing the protest.
The response to the Ombudsman has been forwarded by the Seaman's Association of the Republic of Serbia today:
1. Letter from the Seaman's Association of the Republic of Serbia to the Ombudsman. The letter can be viewed below.
2. Demands submitted to the Government and the Ministry of Finance. The demands have already been published in the previous announcement of the Association of Seafarers of the Republic of Serbia.
